Avery Dennison DR OptiTune Dual-Reflective Window Film

A sunny office may need stronger glare control than a room used mainly in the evening. Avery Dennison DR OptiTune gives you five interior dual-reflective grades to compare: 05i, 15i, 20i, 30i and 40i. They have a warm neutral grey appearance, with different balances of daylight, solar control and reflection.

Choosing the darkest option without seeing it on the window can be a mistake. Book a free WindowTint.biz consultation: we come out, measure the glass, bring samples, answer your questions and quote on site.

Compare all five OptiTune grades

Start with the room’s actual light level. In the reference comparison below, 05i and 15i provide much stronger shading than 30i and 40i. 20i falls between those groups for transmitted daylight. The reflection columns also show why two grades should be compared on appearance rather than ranked only by how dark they are.

Manufacturer reference-glass comparison

DR OptiTune 05i

  • Visible light transmitted: 6%

  • Total solar energy rejected: 84%

  • Interior / exterior reflection: 15% / 63%

DR OptiTune 15i

  • Visible light transmitted: 13%

  • Total solar energy rejected: 78%

  • Interior / exterior reflection: 25% / 56%

DR OptiTune 20i

  • Visible light transmitted: 21%

  • Total solar energy rejected: 67%

  • Interior / exterior reflection: 15% / 32%

DR OptiTune 30i

  • Visible light transmitted: 32%

  • Total solar energy rejected: 63%

  • Interior / exterior reflection: 26% / 32%

DR OptiTune 40i

  • Visible light transmitted: 41%

  • Total solar energy rejected: 54%

  • Interior / exterior reflection: 18% / 21%

Figures are from Avery Dennison’s individual data sheets, using each sheet’s Single-pane column. Avery calculates these values on 3 mm glass with NFRC methodology and LBNL Window 5.2. They are estimates for that reference glazing, not a prediction for your windows. The film names are grade names; they do not state exact installed light transmission.

Interior reflection is not a simple darker-to-lighter sequence. For example, the listed room-side reflection of 20i is lower than 30i on this reference glazing. A sample comparison is especially useful if lamps or ceiling lights sit behind you while you look outside.

What does dual-reflective mean for the view?

The film is designed to have different reflective characteristics on its two sides. Each OptiTune grade in this comparison has lower visible reflection on the room side than on the exterior side. That can help balance an outward reflective finish with the view from inside, but it does not remove all indoor reflections.

Check the exterior too. A darker, more reflective sample may be appropriate for one commercial facade and more noticeable than a homeowner wants on another building. Adjoining untreated glass, shade from an overhang and the sky can all change the impression. Our commercial window film page covers the wider planning considerations for business properties.

Daytime privacy has a lighting condition

Reflective film can make it harder to see into a room when the outside is brighter than the inside. That effect changes as the light balance changes. A room lit after sunset can be visible from outside, even when the windows gave strong daytime privacy.

For bedrooms, bathrooms or confidential work, plan the nighttime privacy separately. An obscuring finish or a suitable window covering may be needed. Our privacy window film guide explains the difference between keeping a view and blocking sightlines.

Choose around the hours you use the room

For a west-facing workstation, compare the film from the chair where glare is a problem. For a lounge, consider both afternoon television viewing and the daylight you want earlier in the day. 05i is a substantial shading choice; it deserves a careful sample test where keeping a bright interior matters.

A stronger reference-glass solar result does not promise a specific room-temperature drop. Sun direction, existing windows, exterior shade and the building’s cooling system affect the result. Our glare-control guide can help you separate direct sun on a screen from the wider problem of a hot room.

Confirm the glass and the proposed work

We inspect glazing type, coatings, condition, dimensions and framing before recommending a grade. This matters for insulated and low-e windows as well as ordinary single panes. We also discuss the intended finish across the building and any landlord or association approval requirements.

Your quote should name the exact OptiTune grade and explain the applicable written warranty. For a wider view of the brand’s solar and decorative choices, see our Avery Dennison window film guide.

Questions about DR OptiTune

Is OptiTune 05i a one-way privacy film at night?

No. Its dark, reflective appearance can support daytime privacy under the right light balance. It cannot guarantee privacy when lights are on indoors and it is dark outside.

Should every window use the same grade?

That depends on exposure, room use and the desired appearance. We can compare a consistent facade treatment with a more targeted approach, subject to glass compatibility and any property requirements.

Will dual-reflective film stop me seeing indoor lights in the glass?

No film in this group eliminates room-side reflection. The amount varies by grade and lighting. We’ll compare the samples with the room layout and evening use in mind.

Is the film a security upgrade as well?

These OptiTune grades are solar-control products. Glass-retention or security goals need their own assessment and an appropriate system; a dark tint alone does not establish that performance.
