Avery Dennison Safety and Solar-Safety Window Film
A clear storefront, a private meeting room and a sun-exposed office can need very different safety-film solutions. Avery Dennison’s architectural range includes clear fragment-retention films, matte privacy/safety films and separate solar-safety constructions. The first step is deciding which outcomes your glass needs to support.
Our free on-site consultation gives you a place to start. The WindowTint.biz team comes out, measures the glass, brings samples, answers questions and quotes the proposed work after assessing the windows and your requirements.
Clear SF films for preserving the view
The interior range includes SF Clear 4 Mil i, SF Clear 7 Mil i, SF Clear 8 Mil i, SF Clear 12 Mil i and SF Clear 15 Mil i. These clear constructions are intended to help hold glass fragments together while keeping a view through the window.
The thickness is part of the specification. It is not a promise that glass cannot break or that the opening cannot be entered. A clear film also should not be selected simply because a room is hot: solar control needs a separate comparison.
SF Matte for privacy and fragment retention
SF Matte 5 Mil i and SF Matte 12 Mil i combine an obscured view with a safety-film construction. They are worth assessing for glazed partitions and doors where a clear finish would leave people too exposed.
Consider coverage height, sightlines and the light on both sides of the partition. A matte sample can look private from across a room while showing a silhouette when someone stands close to the glass. A privacy result and a glass-retention result each need their own assessment. Our privacy window film guide explains more about planning the view you want to obscure.

Solar-safety films when heat and glare also matter
R Silver 20 - 4 Mil and R Silver 20 - 9 Mil combine a reflective silver appearance with solar control and a safety construction. Compare their appearance from inside and outside before choosing them for customer-facing glass.
NT PerLite Ceramic 35 - 6 Mil and NT PerLite Ceramic 35 - 10 Mil offer a neutral-looking solar-safety alternative. They have their own specifications. Ordinary NT PerLite Ceramic 35i and ordinary R Silver solar films should not be treated as equivalent safety products because the names look similar.
These films reduce the amount of daylight as part of their solar-control effect. We compare samples with how the room is used, especially where displays, screens or a valued view are involved. View-through solar-safety film does not provide dependable nighttime privacy when the interior is brighter than outside.
Modular SF Clear requires an approved combination
SF Clear 4 Mil Mod ix, SF Clear 7 Mil Mod ix and SF Clear 12 Mil Mod ix belong to Avery’s modular range. These products can form part of a specified layered system, pairing safety and solar-control functions where the combination is approved.
“Modular” does not mean any two films can be stacked. We need the exact film pairing, substrate, application side and installation instructions. The combined system also has its own warranty conditions. Adding layers to an unidentified existing tint is not a routine substitute for that review.
Exterior SF Clear is a separate selection
SF Clear 4 Mil X and SF Clear 7 Mil X are exterior safety-film products. Their location on the outside of the glass changes the installation, exposure and care questions. We evaluate the glass and access before confirming an exterior scope.
Keep these clear safety films separate from sacrificial anti-graffiti products, which address surface damage and replacement. The shared word “clear” does not establish the same construction or retention purpose. Avery’s architectural product resource library provides separate sheets for these families.
The glass and frame are part of the decision
Film can help hold broken pieces together, but retaining the filmed glass within the opening may require an appropriate frame attachment system. We examine the glazing, pane dimensions, coatings, frame condition and available attachment area, then compare the proposed assembly with any required documentation.
If your building specification or insurer calls for a particular test result, bring that requirement to the consultation. A result for one tested assembly cannot be assumed to apply to different glass or framing. We confirm the recommended material and scope and explain the applicable written warranty. Our Avery Dennison guide covers other architectural-film choices.

Questions about Avery safety film
Does a thicker film guarantee greater security?
Thickness alone does not establish a security outcome. The glass, frame, attachment and tested assembly matter. We review the intended result and supporting documents before recommending a construction.
Can I add safety film over my existing tint?
Do not assume an existing film is a suitable base. Modular products have specific approved combinations and installation requirements. We inspect what is already on the glass and determine whether removal or a different approach is needed.
Will SF Matte hide people standing next to the glass?
Matte film obscures a clear view, but silhouettes can remain visible depending on lighting and distance. Sample it at the intended coverage height and under the lighting used in that room.
Does safety film replace required safety glazing?
A film label alone cannot establish that a window or door meets a code or project requirement. Any required compliance needs evidence for the exact assembly and review by the appropriate project professional or authority.
