Huper Optik ClearShield Safety Window Film

If you want to reduce the spread of broken glass while keeping a clear view, Huper Optik ClearShield is a safety-film family worth evaluating. The range includes clear films in three thicknesses and a separate tinted option for projects that also need solar control. Choosing between them starts with the window and the reason you want it treated.

During a free on-site consultation, the WindowTint.biz team measures your glass, brings samples, answers questions and quotes the proposed work. We discuss the retention goal and check the windows before recommending a film or attachment detail.

ClearShield and Neutral 35: four choices

Huper Optik’s safety and security range includes these architectural products:

  • ClearShield 4 mil: a clear safety-film option for projects where keeping the existing view and daylight is important.

  • ClearShield 8 mil: another clear construction to evaluate against the required glass-retention scope and the existing glazing.

  • ClearShield 14 mil: a thicker clear construction that needs its own project specification and supporting technical documentation.

  • ClearShield Neutral 35 8 mil: a tinted solar-safety film for combining fragment retention with heat and glare reduction.

A mil is one thousandth of an inch. It describes film thickness, not tint darkness or a complete security rating. The three clear thicknesses should be compared as parts of a proposed glazing system rather than ranked by a promised amount of protection.

The appearance difference between clear and solar-safety film is substantial. On Huper Optik’s stated 6 mm clear float reference glass, ClearShield 8 mil transmits 88% of visible light, while Neutral 35 8 mil transmits 36%. Those are manufacturer reference values; your existing glass affects the finished appearance. Neutral 35 is a separate safety construction from Huper Optik Ceramic 35.

Holding fragments together and retaining the opening

Safety film adheres to glass and can help keep broken fragments together. The surrounding frame is another part of the job. A sheet of broken glass held together by film is not automatically anchored to that frame.

If keeping the treated glazing within the opening is part of the requirement, the frame connection must be assessed. That can involve an appropriate attachment system, supported by documentation for the intended assembly. We look at the glass, framing, seals and available attachment area together. Film thickness alone cannot answer those questions.

Tell us if an insurer, building specification or other project requirement calls for a particular test result. The relevant evidence must match the glass, film, frame and attachment arrangement. A general product description cannot establish that every treated window meets the requirement.

Choose the appearance around how you use the room

Clear film is useful when you want to preserve merchandise visibility, a garden view or the daylight in an already shaded room. Neutral 35 deserves a closer look when direct sun also makes the area uncomfortable. Compare a sample from the places people actually sit or work, as well as from outside.

A tinted solar-safety film changes the amount of daylight entering the space. Its appearance also shifts with the light on each side of the glass. If nighttime privacy matters, plan suitable window coverings or discuss an obscuring film separately. A clear or tinted view-through film does not provide dependable privacy after dark.

What we check before quoting

We review pane size, glass construction and condition, coatings, framing and access. We also look for existing film and discuss any removal needed. Dual-pane and low-e windows require a film-to-glass assessment; a published performance value is not an installation approval.

The quote identifies the selected film and the proposed installation scope, including attachment work when appropriate. We confirm the material for your project and explain the applicable written warranty. For other appearance and comfort choices, see our Huper Optik window film guide.

Questions about ClearShield safety film

Can ClearShield stop a window from breaking?

Glass can still break. The film is intended to help hold fragments together after breakage. Whether the broken glazing stays within the opening depends on the glass, frame, attachment and installation, so the whole assembly needs review.

Should I choose the thickest ClearShield?

Start with the intended outcome and the existing window. Thickness is one part of the specification. A thicker film by itself does not establish a tested security result or make an unsuitable frame suitable.

Will clear safety film reduce afternoon heat?

ClearShield prioritizes a clear appearance and fragment retention. If solar heat or glare is also a concern, compare Neutral 35 8 mil with the clear choices. We can show the daylight tradeoff on your glass.

Which warranty applies?

The applicable written safety-film warranty should accompany the project recommendation. We review the selected product, eligible glazing, installation requirements and care instructions rather than carrying over the terms of a different Huper Optik family.
