LLumar Clear Specialty Window Film: AIR and AU85

You may want to keep a bright window almost unchanged while dealing with a specific problem: sun on a seating area, exposure of furnishings or a shop display that needs to stay visible. LLumar's clear specialty architectural films offer different ways to approach those goals. Similar-looking samples can have quite different solar performance.

WindowTint.biz helps Southern California homeowners and businesses compare AIR and AU85 against their existing glass. The starting point is what you want the window to do, followed by how much change in brightness or appearance is acceptable.

AIR80 and AIR90: bright solar-control choices

The architectural products are AIR80 BL SR HPR and AIR90 CL SR HPR. Their full codes help keep the selection precise. Both are light-appearance options, with AIR80 providing more solar control and AIR90 passing more visible light in LLumar's reference comparison.

That gives the sample discussion a useful direction. AIR80 is worth comparing when a bright appearance matters but incoming solar energy is a concern. AIR90 belongs in the conversation when preserving even more daylight takes priority and a smaller change in solar performance may be acceptable.

AU85: a different UV-focused choice

AU85 UV SR HPR emphasizes UV protection while retaining a very bright appearance. It can be considered when reducing UV exposure is the main purpose, such as around furnishings or displayed materials. Its heat-control contribution should be evaluated separately.

For a concrete comparison, LLumar's March 2026 architectural sheet lists total solar energy rejected of 42% for AIR80, 28% for AIR90 and 16% for AU85. The basis is film on single-pane, 1/8-inch (3 mm) clear glass, measured using NFRC solar-performance guidelines. These are representative reference results; your glass changes the result. They are not reductions in room temperature or utility costs.

How much glare relief can a clear film provide?

Preserving a bright view means allowing substantial visible light into the room. That can suit an entry, display window or living space with balanced daylight, while leaving a problem when direct sun falls across a laptop or television.

We look at where glare occurs and how long it lasts. If the main complaint is intense visible brightness, the comparison may need to include a more shaded film or an adjustable window covering. Choosing a clear film solely because it looks unobtrusive can miss the reason you wanted treatment in the first place.

Samples are also important for color and reflection. Existing coatings, tinted glass and interior finishes all influence what you see. We compare the treated sample with nearby glass from inside and outside, rather than describing any film as completely invisible in every setting.

UV protection helps with one part of fading

LLumar lists greater than 99% ultraviolet protection for all three products over the sheet's stated 300–380 nm range on the reference glass described above. That specification concerns UV exposure; it does not mean the films have equal heat control or prevent all sun damage.

Visible light, heat, the duration of exposure and the sensitivity of each material also influence fading. A fabric, print and wood finish may respond differently in the same room. Our guide to window film and furniture fading explains why managing exposure remains important after installation.

For delicate artwork or valuable collections, the film decision should fit any conservation guidance for those materials. We can discuss the glazing treatment without promising that a clear film will preserve every object indefinitely.

Clear specialty window film questions

Which is best for a hot room?

Among these three, AIR80 has the stronger solar-rejection reference figure. The right choice still depends on the glass, exposure, desired daylight and other sources of heat. We assess the room before recommending a film; AU85's UV-focused purpose should not be mistaken for equivalent cooling performance.

Will these films give a storefront privacy?

They are intended to retain a clear view. They should not be selected for reliable privacy, especially with lights on inside after dark. Our commercial window film service can address separate privacy needs alongside solar and display-window goals.

Can they be applied over existing tint or low-e glass?

We inspect existing film and identify the glazing before recommending an installation. Existing film may need removal, and low-e coatings require an application-specific compatibility check. A clear appearance does not establish universal suitability.

How do I compare price and warranty?

We measure the glass and review access, preparation and the selected product before quoting. The written proposal identifies applicable terms. The LLumar architectural guide provides context for other film families if your priorities call for a different approach.
