Solar Gard TrueVue Dual-Reflective Window Film

Solar Gard TrueVue gives homeowners and commercial property owners a choice of darker and lighter solar-control films with different levels of reflection on each side of the glass. Its dual-reflective design combines a more reflective exterior with a less reflective room-facing surface. For a bright Southern California living room, office or meeting space, the useful question is how much glare relief you want while keeping the daylight and view you enjoy.

Start with a free on-site consultation. WindowTint.biz measures your windows, brings samples and discusses the rooms that need attention before preparing a quote for your project.

Choose for the room you use every day

A television room with afternoon glare may call for a different balance than a breakfast area where morning daylight is part of the appeal. In an office, consider where people sit, how screens face the windows and whether occupants can adjust existing shades. Tell us when the problem is most noticeable; you do not need to identify a film model before calling.

Start your sample comparison with the lightest option that could make the room comfortable, then compare a darker sample. Look toward the view, across the room and at the glass itself. A small swatch held against a bright sky does not tell you how an entire wall of treated windows will feel. Our glare-control guide explains the broader selection considerations.

Compare TrueVue 5, 15, 30 and 40

Solar Gard's February 2022 sample sheets provide the following estimates for film applied to the inside of 6 mm clear glass. Visible light transmission describes how much visible light passes through that reference combination. These are comparison figures, not a prediction for every installed window.

  • TrueVue 5: 5% visible light transmission and 94% glare reduction. This is the darkest of the four choices.

  • TrueVue 15: 12% visible light transmission and 86% glare reduction, with a pronounced reduction in daylight.

  • TrueVue 30: 31% visible light transmission and 65% glare reduction, allowing more daylight than the darker options.

  • TrueVue 40: 39% visible light transmission and 56% glare reduction, the lightest choice in this family comparison.

Glare reduction is relative to the stated untreated reference glass. Different glass, coatings and insulated units can change performance. The product number is a name, so it should not be read as an exact light-transmission percentage for your windows.

Look at reflection from both sides

Exterior appearance and your view from inside deserve separate attention. On that same 6 mm clear-glass reference in the February 2022 sheets, TrueVue 5 has 8% interior visible reflectance, while TrueVue 15 has 23%. The darker film therefore does not automatically produce the stronger room-side reflection. TrueVue 30 and 40 occupy their own positions in the comparison rather than following a simple darkness rule.

Check a sample from your usual seating position and from outside the building. Interior lights, nearby surfaces and the brightness outdoors all affect what you notice. If a lighter-looking result is your priority, compare the separate PureVue Ceramic and Panorama Hilite families during selection. The Solar Gard window-film guide provides the wider family overview.

Plan privacy for daytime and after dark

Reflective solar film can make it harder to see into a room when outdoors is brighter than indoors. That effect depends on the lighting difference. Once the room is brightly lit and the exterior is dark, someone outside may be able to see in. Lower interior reflection helps the view out, but it does not create reliable nighttime privacy.

For a bedroom, street-facing room or confidential meeting area, plan the privacy requirement separately. Blinds or curtains can provide screening after dark; decorative options may suit glass where a clear view is unnecessary. See our privacy window-film guide for those distinctions.

Match the film to the glass and written warranty

TrueVue's reference sheets describe interior application. Choosing it for existing windows requires checking the glazing construction, coatings, condition, exposure and any existing film against the relevant film-to-glass guidance. A similar-looking window next door is not enough to establish suitability. We handle that assessment with you.

Solar Gard's published US limited warranty lists limited-lifetime residential and 12-year commercial film terms for TrueVue, subject to its conditions. Importantly, TrueVue is excluded from coverage for excessive or unusual color change. Coverage also depends on authorized installation, eligible glazing and the required documentation, and is nontransferable. Any glass-breakage or insulated-glass seal coverage has separate conditions. Review the written terms for the proposed installation before proceeding.

TrueVue questions

Is TrueVue 5 a blackout film?

No. It is a very dark, view-through solar-control film. Its February 2022 sheet reports 5% visible light transmission on inside-filmed 6 mm clear glass; it does not provide an opaque blackout finish.

Which TrueVue shade should I choose for a home office?

Compare samples where you work, considering screen glare, usable daylight and your view. The best starting point depends on that room rather than a universal shade recommendation.

Will TrueVue provide privacy at night?

It cannot provide dependable nighttime privacy when a bright interior is visible from a darker exterior. Include a separate screening solution where privacy after dark matters.

Does TrueVue include color-change warranty protection?

The published US warranty specifically excludes TrueVue from excessive or unusual color-change coverage. Other film coverage remains subject to the applicable written terms.
