XPEL VISION Decorative and Privacy Window Film

Clear glass can make a room feel open while leaving people more visible than they want to be. XPEL VISION decorative film gives you several ways to change that balance: White Frost, Dusted Crystal, Black Out and White Out. Each creates a different look and admits a different amount of light, so choosing a finish starts with what you want the glass to do.

For an entry sidelight, office partition or meeting-room door, we look at who can see through the glass, from where, and under which lighting conditions. WindowTint.biz helps you compare the finishes on site rather than guessing from a small picture.

White Frost, Dusted Crystal, Black Out and White Out

The figures below describe film installed on 1/8-inch (3 mm) clear float reference glass. Visible light transmission measures light passing through the sample; it does not measure how clearly a person or object can be seen.

XPEL decorative film reference-glass comparison

White Frost

  • Visible light transmitted: 65%

  • UV rejection: 99%

  • What to compare: Frosted appearance with transmitted daylight

Dusted Crystal

  • Visible light transmitted: 86%

  • UV rejection: 35%

  • What to compare: Lighter dusted appearance and sightline control

Black Out

  • Visible light transmitted: 0%

  • UV rejection: 99%

  • What to compare: Black finish where blocking light through treated glass is the priority

White Out

  • Visible light transmitted: 9%

  • UV rejection: 99%

  • What to compare: White finish with limited light transmission

White Frost is a starting point when you want an obscured view while allowing daylight through. Dusted Crystal has a lighter dusted finish and greater measured light transmission. Compare both with someone standing at the distances that matter; a brighter finish does not automatically provide the same degree of obscurity.

Black Out suits a different goal: blocking visible light through the treated glass. White Out provides a white appearance but still transmits some light. It should not be specified as though it has Black Out's zero-light-transmission result.

Design privacy around real sightlines

Full coverage, a centered band and a design with clear sections can feel very different in use. A band that hides a seated person might leave a clear view when that person stands. A clear section beside a door can reveal more than expected from an angle down the hallway.

We consider seated and standing positions, nearby lighting, the distance between people and the glass, and how the room will be used after dark. Frosted film can obscure detail while still showing silhouettes, particularly when a person is close to the glass or strongly backlit. For a space where discretion matters, sample checks should reflect those conditions.

For design ideas and the wider installation process, explore our privacy window film guide and commercial window film services. We can discuss the look you want without assuming that one finish suits every room.

Match the finish to the glass and the purpose

These are decorative choices for architectural glass. We review the substrate, existing coatings, pane condition, sun exposure and proposed coverage before specifying a product. A dark decorative film on sun-exposed exterior glazing needs its own compatibility assessment; it should not be treated like a film for an interior office partition.

Partial coverage and cutout designs also need a specific installation and warranty review. Standard full-pane coverage should not be assumed to apply to a decorative band. We explain the applicable written terms with the quote.

If heat or glare is the main problem and you want a clear outdoor view, a solar-control family may be a better starting point. Our XPEL VISION window film guide explains the broader architectural range. Privacy, solar control and glass-retention needs should each be assessed on their own merits.

Decorative window film questions

Does frosted film work at night?

Its obscuring finish does not depend on a daytime mirror effect. However, lighting, distance and silhouettes still affect privacy. We compare the intended finish and coverage for the way the space will be used, including after dark.

Will Black Out make the entire room completely dark?

The stated zero light transmission applies to the treated reference-glass sample. Light can still enter around edges, through uncovered sections or from other windows and doors. A room-darkening goal needs a review of the whole space.

Do all decorative films provide the same UV protection?

No. Dusted Crystal lists 35% UV rejection on the reference glass, while the other three list 99%. If reducing UV exposure is important, include it in the selection rather than assuming every privacy finish performs alike. No film eliminates all causes of fading.

How is decorative film priced?

The quote depends on the finish, glass area, preparation, access and design complexity. Bands and cutouts can involve different work from full-pane coverage. We measure and review the layout before pricing the installation.
