XPEL VISION Safety and Solar-Security Window Film
XPEL VISION safety films are designed to help hold broken glass fragments together. Within the family, clear safety films prioritize daylight and a clear view, while solar-security films add a choice of solar performance and shade. That distinction matters when a living room, office or storefront has both a glass-retention concern and uncomfortable sunlight.
WindowTint.biz helps Southern California homeowners and businesses compare XPEL options on their existing glass. Start with the concern you want to address, then consider the room's daylight, the window construction and the installation required.

Compare clear and solar-security options
The comparison below shows manufacturer-listed interior security products. Visible light transmission, or VLT, describes how much visible light passes through the filmed glass. Total solar energy rejected, or TSER, describes solar performance. Neither number measures intrusion resistance or predicts a room's temperature reduction.
XPEL VISION R0326V3 reference values use film on 3 mm glass. These are nominal guidance, not measurements of your windows.
Security Clear 4 mil: 89% VLT and 17% TSER.
Security Clear 8 mil: 89% VLT and 18% TSER.
Security Clear 14 mil: 88% VLT and 19% TSER.
Security 8 mil Clear View Plus 70: 73% VLT and 51% TSER.
Security 8 mil Neutral 50: 55% VLT and 41% TSER.
Security 8 mil Neutral 35: 38% VLT and 50% TSER.
Security 8 mil Silver 15: 15% VLT and 79% TSER.
The clear group preserves the most daylight but has comparatively modest solar rejection. The security version of Clear View Plus 70 combines higher light transmission with solar control. Neutral options reduce daylight further, while Silver 15 has the darkest, most reflective appearance in this comparison. These are selection references; your quote identifies the proposed product and installation.

Choose the appearance for the space
Consider how you use the room before choosing a shade. A bright display window, a sunny home office and a conference room may have different priorities. Tell us where glare is distracting, when sunlight is uncomfortable and which views you want to preserve. We can compare samples in those locations.
Look from indoors and outdoors, with attention to room-side reflections as well as the exterior finish. A small difference in a specification does not tell the whole story of a window's appearance. For other architectural choices, explore the XPEL VISION window film family.
Separate exterior safety from surface protection
XPEL identifies its 7 mil clear safety product as Exterior Security Clear 7 mil in the consolidated specification. It is a separate exterior selection, with different application and warranty considerations. Our XPEL exterior window film guide covers the related exterior solar-control family.
Anti-graffiti film addresses damage to the glass surface and should not be substituted for a safety-film specification. If repeated scratching or graffiti is your concern, see our storefront anti-graffiti film guide. Explain both concerns during the assessment if surface damage and broken-glass retention matter.
Check the glass and frame together
The assessment considers glass construction, dimensions, coatings, existing film, condition and frame details. XPEL's film-to-glass guidance makes compatibility an important part of selecting the installation. You do not need to know your glass specification before arranging a visit.
A specific protection requirement needs evidence for the proposed system, including the glass, film, frame and any relevant attachment. An attachment design should follow the intended performance and supporting documentation rather than a blanket rule for all windows. Read our safety and security window film guide for broader project considerations.
Review the written warranty
XPEL's published schedule lists 10-year commercial and limited-lifetime residential film coverage for specified interior security and solar-security products, subject to its written conditions. Coverage is nontransferable, and rental units are treated as commercial properties. Exterior products have different terms.
The selected film, glazing compatibility and installation must meet the applicable requirements. Glass-breakage and seal-failure provisions have separate conditions and exclusions. Ask for the warranty matching the named product on your quote, and keep the installation receipt and warranty documents.

Frequently asked questions
Is Clear View Plus 70 the same as the 8 mil security product?
No. Standard XPEL Clear View Plus solar film and Security 8 mil Clear View Plus 70 are separately specified constructions. A shared name or similar appearance is not enough to identify the safety version; check the complete product designation.
Is 14 mil automatically the best choice?
No. Thickness alone does not establish the right system for an opening. The intended purpose, glass and frame, installation details and relevant test evidence all need to be considered together.
Can safety film be installed over existing tint?
Existing film needs to be assessed before installation. XPEL's film-to-glass guidance excludes multiple films on the same pane from warranty coverage. Any required removal and glass preparation should be included in the proposed scope.
Does the film or its warranty guarantee that a break-in cannot happen?
No. Film can help retain broken fragments, but glass can still break. It does not make a window bulletproof or establish a guaranteed forced-entry delay. The limited film warranty covers specified defects under its terms, not a security outcome.
